Short Stories 2021 - 2022
The series "Short Stories" explores patterns inspired by textiles, specifically those that are printed or woven.
In each of the works you will find curves that possess a certain awkwardness and a suggestion of figurative elements. These curves create a humorous and cartoon-like effect, constantly oscillating between elegance and ridiculousness. By pushing the boundaries of what is considered "good" taste, they challenge traditional norms. Additionally, I incorporate other patterns into this artwork, such as stripes, which have a strong historical connection to various aspects of everyday life. Stripes have been associated with marginalized groups throughout history, from prisoners to sailors, and from children to artists.
It is worth noting that patterns and weaving in household items, including wallpaper, upholstery, and clothing, have historically been predominantly associated with women. In the 19th century, this preoccupation with patterns extended to the embellishment of the human body, reflecting the significance and influence of textile design during that era. Short Stories was exhibited at Birch Contemporary in Toronto April 28 - June 4, 2022
